Mamoun M. Bader
Dr. Mamoun M. Bader is Professor of Chemistry at Alfaisal University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Southern California and has held research and academic appointments at Hitachi Research Laboratory (Japan), the University of Minnesota, United Arab Emirates University, The Pennsylvania State University, and Alfaisal University. Throughout a career spanning more than three decades, he has established an internationally recognized research program in molecular crystal engineering and organic functional materials.
Dr. Bader's research focuses on the molecular design, synthesis, crystal engineering, and characterization of π-conjugated organic materials for applications in organic electronics, optoelectronics, photonics, and molecular sensing. His work has made important contributions to understanding how molecular conformation, crystal packing, and intermolecular interactions govern charge transport, optical behavior, and electronic structure in organic semiconductors. By integrating synthetic chemistry with single-crystal X-ray diffraction, photophysical and electrochemical measurements, and density functional theory, his research has provided fundamental structure–property relationships that guide the rational design of high-performance functional materials.
His recent work has focused on donor–acceptor oligothiophenes, fused ladder heteroacenes, molecular crystals, pharmaceutical polymorphs, and advanced crystal engineering strategies for controlling solid-state properties. His research has been published in leading journals, including Chemistry of Materials, Crystal Growth & Design, Journal of Physical Chemistry, ACS Omega, CrystEngComm, JACS and Langmuir.
In addition to his research accomplishments, Dr. Bader has served in numerous academic leadership roles, including Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at Alfaisal University and Discipline Coordinator in the Division of Science at Penn State. He has mentored more than 80 undergraduate and graduate researchers, served on NSF CAREER review panels and the King Faisal Prize Science Selection Committee, and remains committed to advancing both fundamental materials research and excellence in chemistry education.
